Inspired by the structure of Jame Clear’s weekly 3-2-1 newsletter, which even after years of reading I find useful on a weekly basis, this weekly blog offers three observations on teaching writing, two quotes about writing and one thing I’m reading at the moment-

Three things I’ve learnt from or with my students this past week

  1. If editing a story trying to communicate the perspective of a person or a character, consider that repetition might not automatically be a negative thing. If it’s part of the person’s perspective, or it gets across their point of view more clearly, it can become a useful tool.
  1. If answering an essay question at school or university, try to use the words of the question as much as you can in your answer, particularly your thesis statement and introduction.
  1. Keep texture and colour in mind when doing creative writing- it can add depth and help the reader imagine what you’re saying much more clearly.

Two quotes about writing

“This is how you do it: you sit down at the keyboard and you put one word after another until it’s done. It's that easy, and that hard.”

― Neil Gaiman

“Let me live, love, and say it well in good sentences”

― Sylvia Plath

Her jokes in English are even funnier now. Thank you Eden!
