Summary of resource:

Supported by Oxford University and with the mission of ”research and data to make progress against the world’s largest problems”, this database has a wide variety of statistics, graphs and diagrams on social, political & economic issues. It doesn’t catch every topic but it’s worth looking at when researching in these areas. Some areas it has comprehensive and useful data and statistics on include:

  • Climate change
  • Poverty
  • Sanitation & water infrastructure
  • International Development

Pros:

  • Graphs and diagrams can clearly explain specific issues
  • Variety of reputable sources
  • Generally up to date and adds new information regularly
  • Can search for information on specific countries, or can browse by topic eg. Education and Knowledge, Health, Violence & War
  • Free, reliable and easy to use

Cons/ issues to take into consideration:

  • Sometimes you look for a topic you think would logically be there and it isn’t covered at all- so can be a bit hit and miss.
