Three things I’ve learnt from or with my students this past week
- If editing a story trying to communicate the perspective of a person or a character, consider that repetition might not automatically be a negative thing. If it’s part of the person’s perspective, or it gets across their point of view more clearly, it can become a useful tool.
- If answering an essay question at school or university, try to use the words of the question as much as you can in your answer, particularly your thesis statement and introduction.
- Keep texture and colour in mind when doing creative writing- it can add depth and help the reader imagine what you’re saying much more clearly.
Two quotes about writing
“This is how you do it: you sit down at the keyboard and you put one word after another until it’s done. It's that easy, and that hard.”
― Neil Gaiman
“Let me live, love, and say it well in good sentences”
― Sylvia Plath
