Three things I’ve learnt from or with my students this past week
- Remember, nobody seriously publishes the first draft. Particularly when my students get paralysed by perfectionism I tell them ‘‘get something down even if it sucks- I can’t read your mind, but once it’s on the screen or paper, we can look at it together’’.
- Don’t lose marks on referencing where you can- they are easy marks to get.
- Celebrate the wins- a student and I finished our first edit of the draft of her book last week. When we got to the final page, it was a beautiful moment. We looked at each other and knew we had a decent piece of work in front of us.
Two quotes about writing
‘‘For me, writing is not just about delivering information, but also about presenting a professional image. The way I write directly reflects how clients and partners perceive me and my company. Clear and well-structured writing helps build trust and credibility, which is very important in this industry’’.
― Eden Zhang, former T&e student
“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”
― Maya Angelou
